National Trench Safety Week: Reinforcing Safety at the Bayside Empath – Greystar Project

At Burgess Civil, we believe that safety is always worth the investment. That’s why we were proud to participate in a special National Trench Safety Week Lunch & Learn hosted by United Rentals Trench Safety at the Bayside Empath – Greystar project.

The event provided an excellent opportunity for our crews to strengthen their knowledge, discuss real-world safety challenges, and reinforce best practices that help protect everyone on the jobsite.

Promoting Trench Safety and Risk Awareness

As part of the stand-down, several important safety topics were covered, including:

  • Trench Collapse Awareness
  • Confined Space Safety Refresher
  • Pipe Plug Safety
  • Hazard recognition and risk mitigation
  • Safe work practices for excavation activities

While trench collapse awareness is often a primary focus during National Trench Safety Week, the discussion on pipe plug safety provided valuable insights into a critical topic that is sometimes overlooked but can present significant risks if not properly managed.

These conversations help ensure that every team member remains vigilant and prepared when working in and around excavation sites.

Learning from Industry Experts

We extend a special thank you to the United Rentals Trench Safety Clearwater branch for coordinating this educational event. We also appreciate the participation of five additional United Rentals District Managers from across the Southeast who shared their expertise, field experience, and practical safety recommendations.

Their commitment to education and continuous improvement helps strengthen safety cultures across the construction industry and reinforces the importance of proactive planning on every project.

Building a Strong Safety Culture

At Burgess Civil, safety is more than a requirement, it’s a core value. Through ongoing training, jobsite stand-downs, and educational opportunities like this, we continue investing in our people and promoting a culture where everyone is responsible for safety.

Events like this remind us that continuous learning and open discussions are essential to preventing incidents and ensuring every employee returns home safely at the end of the day.

We thank United Rentals Trench Safety for their partnership and for helping make National Trench Safety Week a meaningful and impactful experience for our team.
