Do You Have A Construction Project We Can Help With?

SR 586 Curlew Road Drainage Project Update

The SR 586 Curlew Road Drainage Project in Oldsmar, Florida, continues making significant progress as Burgess Civil advances stormwater drainage improvements, underground infrastructure installation, and traffic system upgrades along the corridor.

Since breaking ground in June 2025, our crews have completed substantial drainage installation work, including more than 5,000 linear feet (LF) of new stormwater pipe, with diameters reaching 54 inches, and approximately 30 new drainage inlets and manholes.

These improvements represent an important investment in the corridor’s drainage infrastructure, while ongoing traffic system upgrades support the modernization of roadway operations.

Stormwater Drainage Installation Progress

A major component of the SR 586 Curlew Road Drainage Project involves installing new stormwater infrastructure along the roadway’s curb lines and travel lanes.

To date, Burgess Civil crews have installed:

  • 5,000+ LF of storm drainage pipe, with diameters up to 54 inches.
  • Approximately 30 new drainage inlets and manholes.
  • Underground drainage infrastructure throughout the project corridor.

Installing large-diameter stormwater pipes within an existing roadway requires careful coordination between excavation activities, underground utilities, and ongoing construction operations.

Our field teams continue advancing these improvements while maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality, and efficient project execution.

Traffic System Improvements and Fiber Optic Installation

In addition to drainage construction, the project includes the installation of more than 6,000 linear feet of new fiber optic cable to upgrade traffic systems along the SR 586 corridor.

These improvements are an important part of the overall infrastructure modernization effort.

Coordinating underground drainage work with traffic system installations helps ensure that the different construction activities progress efficiently and remain aligned with the project’s schedule.

Upcoming Drainage Work Beneath McMullen Road

The next major milestone involves installing 182 linear feet of 42-inch drainage pipe beneath McMullen Road.

This upcoming installation represents another important phase of the underground infrastructure work.

Following the remaining drainage activities, the project will move toward its final roadway improvements, including:

  • Final roadway resurfacing.
  • Traffic signal loop installation.
  • Pavement striping.

These finishing activities will help restore the roadway and bring the project closer to completion.

Teamwork Driving Project Success

The SR 586 Curlew Road Drainage Project highlights the importance of coordination between construction crews, project management, engineering representatives, vendors, and subcontractors.

We extend our appreciation to FDOT District 7 Pinellas Operations, our Construction Engineering and Inspection (CEI) staff, and all vendors and subcontractors for their continued collaboration throughout the project.

At Burgess Civil, we recognize that successful infrastructure projects require teamwork, communication, and a shared commitment to delivering quality work.

We’re proud of the progress our team has achieved since June 2025 and look forward to completing the remaining drainage and roadway improvements.

Great work by everyone involved in keeping this important Oldsmar infrastructure project moving forward!
